I was already up. (I've gotten into the ungodly habit of rising around 4 AM, for some reason.) There was one very short shock - less than half a second, I'd guess - and then a slightly longer and stronger one, at which point I grabbed Murphy and ducked under the doorframe.
The only real effect was that a couple of papers fell out of my overflowing waste basket.
A real, credible earthquake. Weird, huh? I guess I shouldn't be surprised. After all, we live near a major fault line, but still...
It did make me realize that our house isn't equipped for emergencies as well as it could be. Fire, earthquakes, zombie invasions... we've been slacking.
