I feel the need for more music.

I've been thinking about my CD collection, and noticing some definite gaps that need filling.

I have a Billie Holiday album, but nothing by Ella Fitzgerald.

I have a Kingston Trio album, but it doesn't have "Tom Dooley", and I'm not satisfied with the recordings of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and "When the Saints Go Marching In".

I have a three-disc set of Gene Pitney's songs, but none of them include "E Se Domani", "Hawaii", "The Last Two People On Earth", "Garden of Love", "Walk", or "Follow the Sun".

My Petula Clark album is excellent, but it doesn't have "Two Rivers".

I don't have anything by the Beatles, and my one Stones album doesn't have "Satisfaction" or "Kicks".

I don't have any early Joe Cocker.

I have one Linda Ronstadt album, but not "Blue Bayou" or any of her work with the Stone Poneys.

I need more Moody Blues and Carole King.

I don't have anything by Blood, Sweat and Tears.

America, Boston, Chicago and Kansas are missing.

I want some Cyndi Lauper, Mister Mister, and Mike & the Mechanics. Spandau Ballet. Mannheim Steamroller. Whatsername who sang "99 Luftballoons". (Ed.: Nena. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] hornedhopper)

Dolly Parton. Skeeter Davis. Tammy Wynette. Patsy Cline.

More Al Stewart. More Heart.

whine.

Nena is whatsername (g). See my other post re music recently and my response to Sun Lizzard for titles of other Nena songs in German you might like. I actually used them when I was teaching undergraduate German at ASU as a TA.

I also recommend Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time."

In playing with iMesh over the last couple of weeks, I was delighted to find Quicksilver Messenger Service's version of "Who Do You Love," which was the only version I ever liked.

What kind of cheese do you like with your whine?

Thanks for the ID.

I have a hankering for some good Swiss.

I keep thinking of more stuff I want. (Yes, I know, nothing's stopping me from doing something about it...)

Have you ever listened to 10cc? Given that you like *most* music (g), I'm willing to bet that you would enjoy the melodies, harmonies, and rhythm switches, not to mention the interesting lyrics. Gee, d'ya think I'm a fan? I don't like *all* of their music, but am very partial to many of their songs. "I'm Mandy; Fly Me," "Dreadlock Holiday," "Art For Art's Sake, and "Wallstreet Shuffle" are some of my favorites.

As long as you're being greedy (lol), you might as well see if you like these...they go well with Swiss, I imagine.

you like *most* music

I do have my limits. I loathe Michael Bolton; I find Wilson Phillips dull; and middle-period Rod Stewart (ca. "Tonight's the Night") repels me. (Early RS - "Maggie Mae" - isn't bad, and his late period - "Downtown Train", e.g. - is actually pretty good, but he stank for a while there.) But, yeah, my tastes are pretty eclectic.

*gasp*

How can you POSSIBLY be missing Chicago and Blood, Sweat, and Tears??

I don't think I can admit to knowing you anymore! ;)

(ducks head apologetically) I have them on LP; I just haven't gotten CDs yet. Trouble is, my turntable doesn't work.

Moody Blues

That's awfully generous of you. I have "Seventh Sojourn", "In Search of the Lost Chord", and a best-of compilation.

Is there anything I can do in return?

I have Days of Future Passed, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, and The Moody Blues Anthology. Shall we continue offlist? Just checked LMB, & I don't have your exact web address.

Impressive music list, dude. My masculine half thinks you need more heavy metal, like AC-DC and Black Sabbath. And don't forget Ted Nugent's timeless romantic classic "My love is like a tire iron." How're your supplies of Jim Croce and Charlie Daniels? How about Segovia? Like Roxanne said in _Cyrano de Bergerac_, it's a good beginning, now elaborate on it. :)

Erm. You're impressed by a list of things I don't have?

I have Charlie Daniels' A Decade of Hits ("Uneasy Rider", "Still in Saigon", "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", "Long Haired Country Boy", half a dozen others), and Jim Croce should go on the list. I'm not familiar with the others. (I mean, I've heard of them, but can't call to mind, either by name or tune, anything they've done.)

More by the thoroughness of the research, professor. That, & most of the stuff on the list is cool in & of itself.

When we merged our collections, Charlie Daniels, Billy Joel, & Jim Croce were among the duplicates, which gave me greater hope for the success of the union, since I hadn't suspected we had so much in common. :)

Music, rather like tv, definitely falls into the "yours, mine, & ours" categories. "His" includes most heavy metal [although I do tend to like the ballads & some of the songs with more rock & less rauc{-ousness}], "mine" includes most celtic & filk, & "ours" includes Moody Blues, humorous & political filk, & celtic stuff that rocks [Emerald Rose--http://www.emeraldrose.com/, etc.].

Andres Segovia is the dead Spanish guitar dude, who majorly rocks. Julian Bream [on lute & other stringed things] is pretty good too. Don't forget Santana. Or Austin Lounge Lizards. Or...

It's still cool that you like so much of the same music we enjoy.
