When I made my Waldorf salad last week, I used Braeburn apples, on a whim. I'd never tried them before.

Braeburn apples are the Mama Bear of apples, neither as tart as, say, Granny Smiths nor as sweet (and bland) as Delicious apples. Here, at least, they cost about twice as much as Delicious, but they're worth it.

This has been a Public Service Announcement.

Granny Smiths used to be my favorite as a teenager but I ran into Braeburns at Duke and I love them. I was very happy to be able to get them here too. I tend to have one with lunch every day. YUMMY!!

Great on salads too. I created this salad last summer -- cook shrimp in olive oil, chilli powder, garlic powder (more garlic than chilli) and flaked coconut, then throw on a salad made up of lettuce, apple pieces, avocado chunks, tomato chunks, and whatever other veggies you think might work. But those were the main ingredients. Yummy! But, for us, something nice and refreshing in the summer, so it's been a while since we've had it. :-)

Ooh. That salad does sound good. I'll keep it in mind.

Cool! I'm glad. It's really pretty easy to do. By the way, we'd usually get the frozen precooked shrimp and just thaw it out on the stove and add the spices to flavor. So not really having to cook much there.

But yeah, I'd think about it again when it's hotter! :-)
