This is a phenomenon I wouldn't have thought of: dubbing as a source of language change.

I'm ever so grateful I live in a country which doesn't dub foreign audiovideo.

One of the things which really annoy me when watching some English-language news and documentaries is when they dub foreigners. You know, reporter interviews a guy on the streets of Gaza or a Professor in Moscow, and you hear the real person's voice for one second before an English voice-over, sometimes even with "Funny Accent", cuts in. Subtitle, people, don't steal the voice and language of the interviewed!

I wonder how http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103223/ would affect that.

nd speaking of dubbing, I have begun to notice recently that, quite often, the lip movements do not match the language of English programs. It seems to be worse on the USA channnel programs. I don't know if it's a 5-second delay, added in case, by some unknown mechanism, an epithet will be thrust into a rerun program, whose original didn't contain one. I am starting to get seriously annoyed by it.

Interesting link, btw.

Very interesting!!

Tom's always said that he's very happy that they subtitle in Belgium rather than dub, unlike in France. I wonder if the French have ever done anything similar? Nah, unlikely, not the French! They probably just ignore the lips and do it properly in French... ;-p
