Ramble, Part 63: Incisive Thinking

Most of Richard Dedekind's contributions to mathematics were in the area of algebra; one of the fundamental constructs used in algebraic number theory¹ is the "Dedekind domain". But he also supplied an alternative construction of the real numbers from the rationals, which will be detailed under the cut.
