Food Foray
Nov. 25th, 2008 11:32 amI made my Thanksgiving grocery foray today.
I'm very much a creature of habit, especially as regards what I eat, and when a favored brand disappears from the shelves, it upsets me. Today, while leaving the produce section, I realized that I'd forgotten to get baby carrots. (They're one of my favorite salad toppings.) I parked the cart safely out of the way (and why don't people do that?) and hurried back, grabbed the familiar orange bag, and... realized it wasn't Green Giant Baby Carrots, but rather Farmstand Petite Carrots. I hesitated, scanned the stand - no Green Giant. I sighed and returned to the cart. (Yes, I'm familiar with the concept of a commodity. I will adjust. But I swear, if Shop'n'Save ever stops carrying Indiana Spud potato bread, I will pitch one royal fit.)
To my pleased surprise, they did have poblano chilies - not many, and a good number were, ah, past the sell-by date, but enough.... The cashier didn't know what they were, and had to call in two others before deciding how to ring them up.
Of the doomed flavors of ice cream, only Neapolitan Dynamite remains. I bought what will probably be one last pint. Sigh.
Tomorrow I will put together the blender.
