Character actor Vincent Schiavelli has died. I was startled by his long list of roles; like many Buffy fans, I knew him best as Jenny Calendar's Uncle Enyos.

Actually, I remember it the other way around, being surprised when I saw his familiar face on Buffy, as the majority of other actors on the show were ( at least to me ) mostly unknowns. I think to some extent that those casting choices improved my suspension-of-disbelief for the show, as sometimes seeing people who have played other roles reminds you that "these are just actors."

I think the role I "knew him best as" was the paranoid spirit in "Ghost," who taught Patrick Swayze how to manipulate physical objects.

Vincent Schiavelli was one of those actors who you recognized instantly, even if you didn't know his name.

The Oregonian marked his passing with an editorial calling for the long-delayed closure of the Oregon State Hospital, lest it outlive the cast of the most famous movied filmed there.

Yeah, I THOUGHT I MIGHT know him, but when it said Uncle Enyos, I knew for sure (from his IMDB.com bio). His face WAS unmistakeble!
