stoutfellowCosta Rica is a small country, but it seems that it's always been the most successful of the Central American nations. Here's more evidence of that success.
In 1940, 75% of the country was forested.
The cover diminished over the next half-century or so, as it did in many places; in 1987, only 21% was under cover.
As of 2010, the forest cover was back up to 52%.
It may be the widow's mite, but it's a damn sight better than a lot of countries are doing.
