Crash Boom Bang

stoutfellowMidnight. I was sound asleep. Suddenly there was a loud noise; I don't know what it sounded like, having been asleep, but it was more than enough to waken me. I got up blearily and starting searching for its source. In the den, I found it.
The big bookcase in the den, the one where I keep the Britannica and ancillary volumes, had shed a shelf. The tumbling volumes had slammed into the stacks of books on the floor in front of the bookcase, scattering them far and wide. I dislodged the shelf and tried, with some difficulty but ultimate success, to put it back where it belonged. I began reshelving books, but lost my balance and fell into the book piles. The shelf fell again and dislodged another. More books on the floor, more mess.
I decided that I wasn't going to be able to put things back together at 12:30 in the morning. I was wide awake, however, and spent some time on the computer and then in the kitchen, hoping to become sleepy again. Ultimately, I succeeded.
The den is a mess. I am, at intervals, working to restore things. I suspect, though, that I'll have to get another bookcase or two. (The viscera of another defunct case lie to one side, with more books stacked on top of and in front of them.)
Bah. I do not need this on top of all the other stuff on my plate.

Date: 2019-02-03 07:08 pm (UTC)It's very likely that if the shelf failed like that in the middle of the night, something material failed; I'd be cautious about expecting it to take load again without identifying and correcting the material failure.
Hope nothing else happens!
