The weather cooled down (into the 80s F) for a week or so, and I managed to get a few things done. My bus ride from work to home involves a change of bus at the downtown station, and the transfer is good for two hours, so I took the time to run over to the post office to get stamps, and to the City Clerk's office to see about replacing my accidentally-laundered voter registration card. The person at the front desk took the card back to (I assume) her supervisor, and came back to tell me that I had to go to the County Clerk's office. She gave me directions; fortunately, it's only a block away. The desk clerk at the County Clerk's office peered at the card, called her supervisor, and started typing into her computer. "Your name is... what is your name?" (She was again peering at the card.) She and her super agreed that I needed a new card, returned the old one (no one was going to be able to vote with it!), and promised to mail me a new one. So that's taken care of.

The storm two nights ago revealed another thing I need to do pronto. Ah well, steps forward, steps back...
