One of my favorite Far Side cartoons is the one with a deer hiding from a hunter. ("I was right. That guy is trying to kill me! Why? What did I ever do to him? I've got to think!")

For some reason, this brought that one to mind.

My ex used to go squirrel hunting when we were married. One time he brought home about half a dozen of them and asked me to cook them. So I found a recipe for Brunswick stew and asked him to skin them. He did, and brought them in, and I duly cooked them and set them on the table, and the ex and his brother sat down and dug in. After a few minutes, the ex noticed that I wasn't eating. He asked me if something was wrong. "Well, dear, after you skinned them, they looked like little people."

They both stopped with forks halfway to their mouths, and I wound up putting the rest of it in the trash.

I've always thought that hunters should be required to provide the squirrels with little shotguns, m'self.
