One of the most glorious birds ever seen on this continent has been rediscovered, after being thought extinct since the 1940s.

The ivory-billed woodpecker has been spotted - and videotaped - in Arkansas.

Have you checked out The Race to Save the Lord God Bird (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0374361738/qid=1114723965/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/103-0006288-9118276?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) (As in, "Lord God! What is that bird?")

It's a great read, and not only for those of us who are a bit bats for birds, as it were. And now (huzzah) it has a happy ending!

No, I hadn't. Thanks for the link. I can't believe the bill on the one Cuban specimen! Amazing that its parents continued to feed it past the nurturing period, since it could not get insects for itself.
