It's been a while since my last post. Where has the summer - or, rather, the summer break - gone? Another week and a half, and I'm off on my vacation - San Diego first, then Spokane for the convention; a week and a half of vacation, and Fall Semester begins. I'll have to use the next ten days to get everything set up for my fall classes - WebAssign, for homework assignments in calculus, and I want to see what I can do with Blackboard to enhance my geometry class.

I had a long list of things I was going to do this summer. I've gotten a few of them done: Gracie's had her teeth worked on, and both dogs have been groomed; I bought a new front doorknob, which I'll install in the next few days; I've made arrangements for a dog-sitter while I'm away; and....

I pretty much finished the Skyrim database. I'm still having to tweak things, but mostly that's because of incorrect data entry in the basic tables - the code seems to be okay. That done, I've begun working on the new version of my Finances database. There are a number of things about the old version which displease me, and thanks to what I've learned from the Skyrim project, I know how to fix a lot of them. Right now I'm just in the conceptual phase - laying out just what I want each form to contain, and what I want to be able to do with them. Then I'll set them up, in accordance with the plan (with, probably, tweaks for aesthetics), and then code them. I'm liking the plan as I'm laying it out; it remains to be seen if I can realize it.

Research continues. I've got a firm grip on the first-order pure classes, and I'm poking at the mixed classes; I've got a general idea which applies to a large fraction of them, but less than half. (There's a full half which can't be touched using the ideas I got from the pure classes, and a remainder of indeterminate size which resist those ideas without blocking them completely.) I haven't written anything up yet. (Cras, cras, semper cras!)

For a wonder, we don't have an Excessive Heat Warning in effect, but it's still too damn hot!
