Here is an infographic charting public popularity of various dog breeds against a measure of the excellence of the breeds. (The measure takes into account trainability, life expectancy, lifetime cost, suitability for children, and other factors.)

I note with some pleasure that Lhasa Apsos and Yorkies are both in the upper right quadrant - above average both in popularity and quality.

I was please to find Shih Tzu up there too. I found Havanese in his data, but couldn't find it / tell where it would be on the chart. :-(
