You know that trick dogs have, of making you nervous by staring at your food while you're eating?

It works in reverse, too.

You mean your dogs actually pay attention to something other than their food while their eating? None of ours ever did -- I don't think they'd even notice you were around, let alone staring at them. Admittedly, we trained each one from puppyhood on to expect somebody to play with their food (a good idea if one has toddlers around), but every single one of them focused on the bowl and its contents. A bomb could go off and Polly would probably have kept right on chowing down without even looking up.

Well, I fudged the story a little bit. It wasn't food per se, but a rawhide chew-bone, and Murphy wasn't eating it but just standing over it. He saw me staring at it and definitely got a little upset.

My dog? Won't eat if you can see him.

He's not food agressive, he's more food timid. He will not eat his dog food unless he's certain he's doing it in secret.

But Tucker is weird. His favorite place to chew on rawhides? He waits for me to get in bed, burrows 1/2 under the covers, then sticks his head and paws out and chews on a rawhide.

This is why my bed is nothing but rawhide pieces currently.
