I suppose that it's one of the characteristics of aging that we establish more and more routines, to the point that our bodies can carry them out without our conscious supervision. This is useful, but it has its drawbacks.
Tonight, after a late snack, I decided to brew some chamomile tea to settle my stomach for bed. I got down a mug, filled it with water, dumped it into the tea kettle, and turned on the burner. At that point, my mind wandered off in another direction, musing on the day's activities. When I came to myself again, I had placed the coffee filter and filter paper on the cup and opened the coffee grinder, and was about to pour in the beans to be ground.
I'm just glad I did come to at that point.
The tea is entirely satisfactory.
