Album Title: Faster Than the Speed of Night
Why I Bought It: For "Total Eclipse of the Heart".
What I Like (Distressed): "Total Eclipse of the Heart". I suppose many people consider this one overwrought, and I can see their point. Still, the singer's emotional distress, sliding from the almost whispered "Once upon a time there was light in my life" to the screamed "I'm livin' in a powder keg and givin' off sparks", makes for a good song, in my opinion. I class this one alongside Sheena Easton's "I Wouldn't Beg For Water", in the "am I really who I thought I was?" category.
What I Kinda Like (Decent Cover): "Have You Ever Seen the Rain". I vacillate on this one, sometimes rating it above CCR's version, sometimes below. Tyler's raspy voice works better, I think, than Fogerty's clearer one, for this song.
Overall: Along with the two songs above, "Faster Than the Speed of Night" appeals to me a little. The rest of the album I can, at best, take or leave; "Getting So Excited" and "It's a Jungle Out There" actually repel me. This is the kind of situation that the purchase of individual .mp3s is for.
