Yesterday, en route to my evening class, I fell in with Y, a former student of mine who is now an instructor in the department. The following conversation is not verbatim, but close enough.

Y: You're teaching calculus, right?
SF: Right, 150.
Y: This afternoon I heard a couple of students talking. I didn't hear what the first one said, but the second one said, "So, your calculus teacher looks like Einstein?" I decided they were probably talking about you.
SF: ______.

What is it with this?

In fairness to Y, she didn't actually say I looked like Einstein; her comment implies only that I look more like Einstein than anyone else in the department does - which is probably true, now that I think about it.
