Well now, that was interesting.
This morning, the guys from Sears came to deliver my new dryer. They worked quickly - in and out in less than half an hour. That wasn't the interesting part.
As they were bringing the new dryer in, Buster spotted a clear field and shot out the door. As soon as they were through the door, I grabbed a leash and went after him, but a) I was barefoot and coatless in near-freezing temperatures and b) Buster was out of sight by the time I got out. I checked the immediate environs, fruitlessly, then came back to put on shoes and a jacket. As I did this, the Sears people finished their job. One of them turned to me very apologetically and told me that if they saw Buster on the way out, they'd try to catch him. I began quartering the neighborhood; passersby kibitzed. ("Looking for someone?" That one, coming from the - potentially dangerous - parking lot in front of Shop'n'Save, told me she hadn't seen any dogs, for which I expressed my gratitude.) As I began the turn toward home, another driver called to me. "Looking for one of your dogs? I saw a couple of guys, around there" - she pointed back towards my house - "trying to catch him." I verified the location, thanked her, and began moving as quickly as I could (Frigid, frigid air!) in that direction. As I did so, the Sears truck passed by; the driver called out, "He's back in the house. We caught him and put him back." I thanked him and jogged slowly home.
Have I mentioned how nice people are around here?
