This morning I was listening (as I often have) to Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues", and something struck me.

If he killed someone in Nevada, what's he doing in a California state prison? He mentions no other crimes.

That's going to bug me for a while.

Simple answer - the Nevada prison system didn't have any available cells, so they were contracting with California for housing of their prisoners until such time as they had room.

I know this happens - either MN or WI is involved in such a deal, I've forgotten on which side. It also happens at the county level - my step-son was held in the lock-up one county south of the county where he got in trouble.
