"Dead snakes". (It has to be said with just the right intonation.)

"Moles". (That one took a delayed reaction.)

The garden snake analogy was absolutely brilliant on Lois's part, IMHO.

Well, mainly I was trying to avoid having to stick it under a cut for spoilerphobes.

Yes, it's a great analogy, not even needing explanation, and she had fun with it throughout the book.
