Apropos of absolutely nothing...
Good: The Puzzler in Atlantic Monthly. A highlight of every month.
Bad: CGI mouths on animals. Sorry, folks, the tech just ain't there yet.
Good: Neal Stephenson. Always a delight.
Bad: Alberto Gonzales. No further comment.
Good: Unmanned probes. Mars, Saturn, Titan - all of it's good.
Bad: The end of the Hubble era. May a successor rise soon.

A heartfelt ditto!
One thing that I think *has* to impinge on long-range NASA planning is that every time a new president comes into power, he brings with him his own agenda (spell that budget *wishes*). I know that Congress votes on the budget, but the budget presented by the White House and the plans that each administration brings with it must change what NASA has to play with. How can they do true long-range planning if every four years, they have to realign their plans with new budgets. (Or maybe I don't have the slightest idea what I'm talking about (said with the voice of Brak (Cartoon Planet: Coast to Coast) (g))
Also good: the news that Saturn has an intriguing hot spot on its South Pole. Cool and interesting...
