Back on the Payroll

Since I wasn't teaching this summer, I received no paychecks for three months. I had the reserves to handle this, but was therefore chary about unnecessary expenses; in particular, I didn't buy any books during that period.

That period has ended; as of last Friday, I'm back on the payroll. To celebrate, I paid a visit to Amazon and spent quite a bit - probably too much - money. The haul included music and books both:

The Very Best of Badfinger
The Way I See It, Raphael Saadiq (an album recommended by daveamongus, if I recall correctly)
Let It Be, the Beatles (three more albums left before completeness)
Ali Mazrui, The Africans: A Triple Heritage
Michael Lynch, True to Life
Brandon Sanderson, Warbreaker (I keep hearing good things about his fantasy works, and of course he was Robert Jordan's chosen successor)
Robert Caro, Means of Ascent (v.2 of his LBJ biography; I inadvertently bought v.3 a while ago)
Andre Joyal, Algebraic Set Theory (a rather abstruse book I've been drooling over for a while)
Bridget Connelly, Arab Folk Epic and Identity
Steven Pressfield, Gates of Fire (a novel about Thermopylae)

For some reason, Amazon treated this as ten separate orders; I'm not sure what that's all about. (Two of the books are from associated dealers rather than Amazon proper.)

Should keep me busy for a while.
