Well, crap.
This afternoon/evening, we had a power outage, from about 5:40 to 8:05. It came as I was in the middle of a Civ IV game; the UPS kept my computer going, but the monitor went blank. I tried for a blind save (Ctrl-S RETURN), and then just turned off the computer - there was no way to get a clean shutdown. I spent the next two and a half hours mooching around, reading, snatching stuff from the fridge (trying not to deplete the cold air, having no idea how long the outage would last), and playing with the dogs. (Gracie was very noisy throughout. At one point, I started herding her with my feet; she eventually escaped by leaping onto the bed. When Buster joined her there, I went down on my knees and peeked over the edge of the bed to get their reactions. Gracie was excited; Buster just rolled over, begging for a belly-rub.)
I've been restoring stuff to proper function (bedroom clock, answering machine, etc.) and finally got around to the TV... which detects no signal from the satellite box. I've tried unplugging both and playing with the menus, but nothing seems to work. Of course, it's Saturday evening, so I probably won't be able to do anything about it until Monday. Not that I was planning on watching anything, but still, it's the principle of the thing.
(Haven't checked the VCR/DVD hookup yet. Should do that next.)
ETA: And I am once again revealed as a moron. The signal from the satellite box is routed through the VCR/DVD player - which I had not turned back on. Until just now.
