stoutfellowBuster has a new favorite toy. (Well, "new" in the sense that it's not the same as the one I talked about last time. Also, it's really plural; there are two of them, but I can't tell the difference.)
I just think of it as "The Bone". It's made to look like a piece of shank, about 3-4 inches long and maybe two in diameter, hollow for about an inch of that. It has the heft and general feel of bone as well, except that it doesn't splinter under Buster's gnawing. He loves it. Whenever I get dressed, making him think a walk is imminent, he races over and finds The Bone. Then he leaps onto the bed and commences playing - gnawing on it, tossing it around, letting it fall to the floor and jumping down in pursuit. When I finally go over to the front closet to get out the leashes, he trots over carrying The Bone. I have to take it from him, or he'd take it with him on the walk. (It's about the same color as his muzzle fur, and in winter he's shaggy enough that sometimes I can't see the thing when it's in his mouth. He did manage to go out with it once before I noticed it.)
His bouncing on the bed with The Bone is usually pretty funny. Sometimes he drops it on the far side of the bed, into an area enclosed by the bed, his hassock, and the nightstand; I have to fetch it for him in that case. On one occasion, as he flung it from him, it snagged in the bedclothes. He didn't notice this, jumped down... couldn't find it. He finally jumped back up and still couldn't see it; he smelled it, though, and wound up worrying at the sheet it was tangled in. (I intervened at that point, to spare damage to the bedclothes.)
He also plays with it at other times than walk-time. Basically, any time he gets excited, he takes it out on The Bone. I've occasionally stepped on it in the wee hours, going to or from the bed - and it's hard.
