Today, I decided to go to work earlier than usual, so as to get in more time on the paper. I was ready to leave at 9:30, but Buster's pitiable whimpering recalled me to duty. It was raining hard early this morning, and I had not taken the dogs out for a walk; but it had cleared by then, so I postponed departure for an hour and took the dogs on a walk.
Once at the office, I plunged into the paper, inserting the new material, sanding down a couple of lemmas, ripping out and rewriting the entire discussion of Case II. I think it's much better now - less spiky, more polished. By the time this was done, it was close to time for class. I began the Case III write-up, but in retrospect (even ignoring the fact that it was hurried), I'm not pleased with what I put down. Mathematics should give not merely knowledge, but understanding, and the line I had begun was definitely lacking in the latter. Rewrite tomorrow.
I picked up some Alpo Flavor Snaps on the way home, and both dogs took them with relish. Buster's reluctance to accept the other treats had me a little concerned; perhaps his teeth were bothering him? But Flavor Snaps are as hard or harder, and he showed no hesitation.
Tomorrow there's a local election, and I'm shamefully unprepared. I'd be inclined to skip it, but there's a school-funding measure on the ballot, and in the current economic/political climate I'd rather not leave it to chance.
I'm reading another of the Lee/Miller Liaden books, Balance of Trade. Lee and Miller are entertaining enough, but I can't say I rate them quite as highly as some of my acquaintance do. I do appreciate the treatment of culture clash in Local Custom, though.
