For the longest time, my only mental association of Jimi Hendrix's name was with his rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner at Woodstock - a rendition, I must say, that doesn't particularly appeal to me. I had heard "Foxey Lady", but not in the awareness that he was the singer. I had never even heard of "All Along the Watchtower" until it turned up on Battlestar Galactica.
I can't say that I like everything on Experience Hendrix, but "All Along the Watchtower", "The Wind Cries Mary", "Voodoo Child", "Freedom", and "Angel" are truly excellent songs - the first and last in particular, to my mind.
Just thought I'd mention that.
