A couple of weeks ago, I made Brunswick stew for the week's dinners. The recipe I used called for eight chicken pieces; at the store, therefore, I looked for boneless parts of chickens, and came away with two packets of chicken breasts - four each. It was not until afterward that it occurred to me to look up the phrase "chicken pieces". I had no idea that it was a technical term, traditionally meaning "everything except the breasts". (One site suggested that wings are beginning to be excluded now as well.)

So. When the time came to cook, I decided that the breasts were of such a size that cutting four of them in two would qualify as eight pieces; I left the other packet in the freezer. This past Sunday, I was feeling a bit harried, and decided against cooking anything big. Instead, I would eat the remaining breasts, one a day for four days. It's easy enough: pop one in the microwave for 3 1/2 minutes (my microwave is only 900W), and you've got a filling main course.

Today, as I was dining on one of the breasts, the dogs came over to beg. I decided to share a bit of the chicken with them; I cut off two small pieces, and handed one of them to the madly dancing Gracie. (I doubt that she even chewed it.) Buster was standing behind her, so I reached over her to give him his bit. Gracie literally leaned over backward, tilting her head maybe 15 degrees past the vertical, and snatched it from me before Buster could accept it.

I felt obliged to cut another piece for Buster, this time shoving my little pig out of the way.
