stoutfellowWhen I'm at home, I keep my keys and loose change in a cup on the chest of drawers. Buster has learned that, when I take something out of that cup, it probably means I'm about to go outside, and thus that there's a chance of a walk. This excites him; he rushes around, finds his current favorite toy, and plays vigorously with it until I summon him to be leashed. It doesn't seem to bother him that I always make him leave the toy behind.
His current favorite is the squeaky-toy I bought him for Christmas. I should describe it. It's not stuffed; it's just a plush "skin", six or eight inches long, roughly weasel-shaped, with a squeaker at either end. It's great for Shake-the-Rat or Tug-of-War, not so good for Fetch - it doesn't throw well. At any rate, this morning Buster performed the usual ritual. As I came out into the living room, he was shaking the toy on the other side of the couch. Suddenly, I saw the toy come flying at my feet, from under the couch.
It must have travelled a good two or three feet in the air, on an extremely low trajectory - thrown from a (small, admittedly) dog's mouth. I could only shake my head and laugh.
