Goodness Gracie...
Mar. 23rd, 2010 06:20 pmToday I took Gracie in to have her teeth taken care of. This is a several-hour procedure, so I took her in in the morning, around 7:30, then went home to wait for them to call. (Buster was very upset about being left home alone again.)
Going in was no problem; Gracie only asked to be carried for the last block or two. When we arrived, there was another customer, a woman who had brought in her dachshund for dental work. The dog's name? Gracie....
I got the call around 1:00, and headed back over. Good news: all she'd needed had been cleaning - no teeth had had to be pulled. Bad news: a bit of bloody diarrhea while she was anesthetized, so I'll need to give her antibiotics for a few days to make sure nothing bad is going on. She was very subdued when they brought her out - tail tucked, head down, only willing to give me one feeble lick when I picked her up. I had to carry her most of the way home, although she perked up a little bit toward the end.
(As we were passing behind the Shop'n'Save/Kohl's area, we passed a trucker who had just made a delivery to Kohl's and was giving her two dogs - dachshunds again - an airing. We chatted a bit while one of her dogs and Gracie got acquainted. I got the impression that she takes her dogs with her on the road... and why not, says I?)
The vet said I'm not to feed Gracie tonight, which has made her unhappy. She's sitting under my chair moaning at me. Her tail has come up a time or two, though, so maybe she's feeling better - hungry, but not so zonked.
I'm tired. Eight miles or so of walking today....
