First Day of Break

stoutfellowAfter the unsatisfying trip to Target a few days ago, I decided to see whether Wal-Mart - about twice as far away - had a better selection of music. (My weight has bumped back up a little bit, to about 195, and I figured the walk might do some good.) I don't go there very often, and they keep changing the layout. I headed over to where the electronic gear, music and video had been last time, and found myself in the middle of the children's toys and games. I began a sweep, wandering through sporting goods, shoes and accessories, and bedclothes before finally spiraling into the right area. There, I was confronted with a broad rack of country music and a small, ill-arranged, and random selection of rock. I picked up a Patsy Cline album and started for the cashiers; in doing so, I circled the rack and found where the real selection of rock was kept. It was still ill-kept and slightly random, but I found enough goodies - Jim Croce, Steely Dan, Cat Stevens, the Doobie Brothers, and Elvis - to make the trip worthwhile.
There's a KFC on the way between my place and Wal-Mart. Every so often I am tempted by the thought of a basket of fried chicken, and stop in there. Doing so today, I negated whatever good the walk did me. (Also? I think KFC chicken gives me headaches. Maybe I'll remember that next time.)
After returning home, I watched another couple of episodes of GG, including "Rory's Dance", the first half of a two-parter that I regard as the best that show has ever done. Even setting aside the large-scale events, there are so many nice little touches - Lane's delighted face through the window as she watches Rory ask Dean to the dance, the first signs of the fragility that underlies Paris's armor, the whole banana-toast sequence - that I find it thoroughly enjoyable, and the second half (which I'm saving for tomorrow) is even better.
This has been a pretty good, if thoroughly self-indulgent, day.
