I'm trying to enforce a certain amount of discipline, with modest success. Buster sits on command, without giving me any trouble. Gracie is learning to do so; at least, she maintains the position reasonably well - but she vibrates. (I have to hold the treat carefully, to discourage her from attempting to snatch it from my hand prematurely.)

Eating at the table is entertaining. When I'm sitting at the table, there's no room between the chair and the wall for either dog to pass. Gracie will come over to my right side, dancing, begging, and barking; then she'll race all the way around the table to my left to repeat the performance. Back to the right; the left; the right again, until at last I finish the meal. Then I get up, pick up the dish, and lower it for the dogs to lick. (At this point Buster emerges from under the table, where he's been lying quietly.) I have to hold on to the dish, and keep moving it so that Buster has a decent shot at it. Gracie tries to crowd him out constantly. Eventually I put the dish down. Buster abandons it to Gracie and follows me into the kitchen to receive a crunchy treat. When Gracie finishes her licking, she also gets one.

(I'm planning on taking Gracie to obedience school, but for reasons of timing I won't be able to do that until the beginning of February. I don't think that Buster needs it, except for his annoying propensity to bolt.)
