The new semester began today. My classes are all Tuesday/Thursday, but I went in anyway to take care of paperwork, get my syllabi printed up, and do some other administrative stuff.
I also wanted to give the new bus routes a look-see. I bought this house with an eye to the bus routes; there has always been a route that ran from near here to the university. No more; as of last week, I have to transfer at the downtown bus station. Mildly annoying, but I can live with it. (Not that I have a choice.)
My two sections of statistics are packed, and I'm getting e-mail requests from students who want to be let in. I can only account for it by remembering that it's a freshman class; this is the first semester for a lot of them, and they're not tuned into the campus grapevine. They'll learn....
I'm going to have to shift the dogs' feeding time to the morning. I won't be getting home until 9:30 or so Tuesday/Thursday nights this semester. (Not that they care about feeding time; they eat when they feel like it, pretty much.)
My sister C will be in town this week, and she's going to lend a hand with my TV shopping. (She refuses, sensibly, to help with getting it hooked up.) I've been cleaning up a little, getting some of the tapes/CDs/DVDs out of the immediate area of the television.
Apropos of nothing, I was just listening to Rumours and, purely as a matter of sound, "The Chain" puts in a bid for being my favorite song on the album. It loses out to "Songbird", but I really like the percussion in particular.
I've launched a Discworld reread. I really find it hard to remember how much I enjoyed The Light Fantastic the first time I read it; when I compare it to Pratchett's later work, it really doesn't hold up well. Introducing Cohen the Barbarian is about its only redeeming feature. Equal Rites, I remain convinced, takes place in an alternate universe; that ain't Granny Weatherwax, no way. Getting to Mort, which is where Pratchett begins to find his voice, was a great relief.
Still no energy for major posts. The soundtrack is apropos.
