1. For the last several days, I haven't been able to access LanguageLog. Every time I try, nothing happens; the tab sits and spins, but to no avail. (If it's the only tab running, the dataflow indicator goes black after a while, as opposed to the green that indicates communication with the outside world.) I'm thinking one of my protection programs might be involved - probably ZA - but a cursory check reveals nothing.
2. For other readers of Girl Genius: I've been thinking about the conversation between Agatha and Vrin when they were both imprisoned in Sturmhalten. Vrin's story of The Lady makes it sound as though the geisterdamen are from another dimension, and that Lucrezia went there to give birth to Agatha. That would explain the absence of records of Agatha's birth at Castle Heterodyne, among other things. Does this make sense to anyone else?
3. Gracie is really an attention hog. If I'm petting her, Buster will come up and sit nearby, making it clear that he'd like some attention too; but if I'm petting Buster, Gracie will come wriggling up and squirm in between us, actually pushing twice-her-size Buster away. (On the other hand, Buster tends to flop and roll when I pet him, and sometimes he flops-and-rolls on Gracie, so maybe they're even.)

Re: Agatha, the geisterdamen, and Lucrezia
Date: 2009-07-13 09:35 pm (UTC)I've speculated that Lucrezia knew she was pregnant with Agatha (well, a girlchild, anyway) when "The Other" attacked Castle Heterodyne and conveniently killed off all the male children.
I've also wondered how Barry managed to get Agatha away from her mother. His having done so makes their being in such deep hiding all her life a lot more reasonable. If he didn't have to stay underground he could just have taken her back to Castle Heterodyne.
I have a hunch that VonPym will turn out to be yet another servant of the Storm King--which should mean the current Storm King can call her off, assuming they both live that long.

Date: 2009-07-13 10:16 pm (UTC)(There's also that scene from the future, where Agatha - or is it Agatha? - is seen accompanied by Gil and one of the geisterdamen. I look forward to the explanation of that.)
Hmm.... Klaus went to the other dimension, too - Lucrezia was surprised to learn that he had "come back". Was he on the recovery expedition? If so, he must have been separated from the Heterodynes and returned on his own, since he seemed unaware of Agatha's existence.
The Storm King was my guess, too. Where did we last see Tarvek? In the castle with his bodyguard, yes, but when was Agatha separated from him?

Re: Agatha, the geisterdamen, and Lucrezia
Date: 2009-07-14 02:49 am (UTC)I think he was dumped in Zeeta's homeland.
And I think Gil was born there. 3 reasons:
In the flashback to when Klaus returned to find Europa in a state of continual warfare there was a brown-haired baby in his backpack.
In the scene just before Othar Trigvisson escapes, Klaus comments that he hasn't seen his wife in a large number of years--not quite 20, I think. And no one has ever mentioned a Lady Wulfenbach, or referred to Gil's mother in any way.
And when he heard about Zeeta, Klaus told Gil Zeeta might have been sent to kill him. If Gil was the offspring of Klaus and a member of the royal family (possibly even the queen) Gil might be a potential heir to the throne--which would be problematic for a matriarchy. So if Klaus beat it out of Zeeta's homeland one step ahead of a bunch of angry amazons, that would explain his jumping to that conclusion.
And Zeeta doesn't know anything about all this because she left home before Klaus arrived.
And yeah, I want to know about that flash-forward, too. Especially why Gil is dressed as one of the geisterdamen and calling Agatha "Mistress". *G*
