As far as I know, no downside except having to get a new email account and tell everybody.
They've supposedly got a spam blocker and they do have an easy spam reporting function. And I've only gotten one email that looked like spam after having it 2 or so months.
It works things a bit differently, no folders, but labels instead. You can filter things easily by the labels though.
Really the only downside is having to play with it to get used to it and get everything the way you want it. I've found it intuitive so far and haven't had any problems with it.
