Miscellany

I had a dream the other morning in which, at one point, I thought to myself, "Oh, God, I'm in the middle of an S. M. Stirling novel...." (Yes, it was a nightmare; it featured the New Madrid Fault cutting loose while I was on the - nonexistent - seventh floor of the Science Building. There were also Scadians.)
All signs are "go" for Puppy Day. I called the shelter this morning and confirmed that it is permissible to adopt two shelter dogs at once; the paperwork involved is no more onerous than in the one-dog case. (I was picturing having to get a letter of reference from Hawthorne Animal Hospital....)
I gave my History of Math students their second set of group projects on Wednesday. One set involved proving various facts about Pascal's Triangle. ("Pascal proved these by mathematical induction. Go thou and do likewise.") Another involved solving the problem Descartes was working on when he came up with the idea of analytic geometry. Pascal's Mystic Hexagram, Descartes' Law of Signs, and the properties of the totient function rounded out the set.
A couple of days ago I finished another Large game of Civ IV. I was going for a Domination victory, but wound up with a Diplomatic one; I ruled so much of the world that when the vote for World President came, I won easily. (I was playing as Genghis Khan, so of course I wasn't going to get any votes from anyone else!)
Hoo. I'm glad it's Friday.
Addendum: Elf is tall! (Or else Lt. Ventura is not just short, but really, really short.)
