It's very cold today; the high was supposed to be 20F, though you couldn't prove it by me, and it was windy. The high is forecast to be over 50F each of the next three days. That's Midwestern weather for you....

I've always suspected Civilization of memory leak. I'm currently engaged in a game on a Huge world (and have been for over a week; Huge games take a l-o-n-g time), and my computer is noticeably slow after each (one hour) session. I'll have to reboot sometime soon.

Every so often the Chancellor picks ten or so faculty at random to have lunch with him - a way of maintaining lines of communication outside the regular channels, which is useful in both directions - and today I was one of the invitees. The lunch was good and the conversation interesting, though I didn't have much to say.

I'm kind of in a blah period at the moment; it's hard to get up energy to do much. It's not hampering my teaching, as far as I can tell, but there are other things that need doing, and aren't being done. Maybe the warm(er) weather will help.

Puppy Day minus 30???

Sticking out a toe to test the weather, through the stargate between my universe and the real world, I see the potentially delightful heading "Puppy Day Minus 30." Does this mean that a new canine member is to join the Stoutfellow Clade?

That's the plan. I'll be going down to the shelter on the Friday before spring break to pick out - well, it'll depend on what they have, but the plan is for two puppies. The choice of date will allow me almost a week and a half to acclimate it/them before I have to go back to work.

Oh, that's the greatest news, Stoutfellow! I am so happy to hear it. Countdown, indeed.

Having just watched the Masterpiece Theatre production of Gerald Durrell's _My Family and Other Animals_, humorous puppy names are on my mind...I don't suppose you want to name them, as the Durrell family named their two puppies, Widdle and Puke. No, I suppose not. Just a thought (g).

Yay for puppies!

I am idly contemplating names, but I'm not going to make any decisions until I actually meet the animal(s) in question.

"Widdle" and "Puke" are right out, though.
