So we slide into Thanksgiving Week break. As usual, attendance was a little sparse in some classes; my Thursday night class drew only five out of eleven students, and only half of my calculus students showed up this afternoon. (Slightly surprisingly, the majority of my stat students came to class this morning.)

I'll have to get a blender this weekend, if I'm to make that chicken poblano. I'll also have to check around to see which (if any) of the local grocery stores carry poblano chili peppers. If none do, I'll have to make something different. (I'll get the blender anyway; I'm sure I'll find uses for it.)

I might run over to Piece of Mind this weekend too. I'm up 113-106 in the read/bought race right now, so I have a little margin to work with.

My family will be holding its Christmas get-together on Saturday the 20th this year. The timing will be a little tight; I'll pretty much have to have the finals graded and the grades posted by the end of work on the 18th - and I'm giving one of my finals that very morning. But I've missed the last two years, looking after Murphy, and I'm looking forward to being there this year.

I'm not going to think about that now. I've got a week or so to relax, and relax I intend to do.

If you are purchasing a blender, consider the Magic Bullet blender. It has a bunch of small cups, and is really great for a single person- you can blend one or multiple things easily, and has a bunch of different cups. great for pesto, whipped cream, whatever.

Plus the little cups go into the dishwasher- a huge plus for me :)

Seconding the Magic Bullet; I consider it one of my two absolutely necessary kitchen accessories (coffee grinder being the other).

It's also marvelous for blending eggs for scrambled eggs. Since it incorporates air into the liquid, the eggs turn out nice and fluffy. Try this: 1 actual egg, 1/2 cup EggBeaters, a splash of milk. Just a few quick pulses in the MB, let rest a minute or two, then season to preference and cook. Yum!

Another easy way to wash the cups is to just put a bit of soapy water in and "blend" that! Cleans the blades real well too. :)
