All those nice forms I put together for my library project? I've deleted every last one of them.

I realized last night that the underlying tables weren't organized as well as they could be. Some of the fields became redundant when I reorganized the keywords set-up; the volumes-works linkage could be altered to fix a problem that had been niggling at me; and a couple of other things could be polished. So I went in, dumped one table entirely, expanded another, and added yet another. Then (feeling like Sten Duncan in Shon'jir) I deleted all of the forms and all of the macros that went with them. I'll rebuild them over the next week, better and cleaner.

Is this what they call "creative destruction"? Whatever; it leaves me feeling a bit like a mad scientist, mua-ha-ha-ing and rubbing his hands....

Creative destruction?

Perhaps. However, what you described is exactly what I feel when I’ve made a change to our company database, or written a VBA macro in Excel, or a program of my own in AutoIt*. It is the feeling of power. With nothing more than a glorified text editor, I can manipulate electrons and control the information that forms other people’s perception of reality.

What a rush!

I’d love to see your structure, forms, and macros when you are finished with it. I’ve thought of cataloging my books too, but just haven’t got around to it.

Do you plan to catalog all of your electronic documents (and the ones that you may have snagged off of the web)?

Thanks - Peter

I'd be happy to share, but there's going to be a lot of it; LJ may not be the best delivery mode. (Also, the part that catalogs the books isn't particularly sophisticated; what I'm throwing effort into is the sub-cataloging. The keywording setup may be adaptable to the book level, though.)

I hadn't been planning to, but I do have a few of those. Hmmm....
