The following is excerpted from this CBS article, datelined Aug. 10, 2008:
Republican strategist Karl Rove said on Face The Nation Sunday that he expects presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama to choose a running mate based on political calculations, not the person's readiness for the job.

"I think he's going to make an intensely political choice, not a governing choice," Rove said. "He's going to view this through the prism of a candidate, not through the prism of president; that is to say, he's going to pick somebody that he thinks will on the margin help him in a state like Indiana or Missouri or Virginia. He's not going to be thinking big and broad about the responsibilities of president."

Rove singled out Virginia governor Tim Kaine, also a Face The Nation guest, as an example of such a pick.

"With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he's been a governor for three years, he's been able but undistinguished," Rove said. "I don't think people could really name a big, important thing that he's done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America."

Rove continued: "So if he were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, `You know what? I'm really not, first and foremost, concerned with, is this person capable of being president of the United States."

Governor Palin, on the other hand, in her short 2 year term as governor of Alaska has distinguished herself in that she has broken the corrupted Republican machine, has taxed oil companies and returned revenue to the citizens in the form of $1200 to each, has said no to the pork barrel spending for the bridge to nowhere..... Each governor is different and she is a mover. How do you rate other governors who became President - Carter, Reagan, Clinton? What does Biden truly offer the ticket?

I didn't order any astroturf...

she has broken the corrupted Republican machine

and is herself under investigation for abuse of power (http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/211769.php) - not to mention that she's been endorsed by sleazemeister Ted Stevens.

has taxed oil companies and returned revenue to the citizens in the form of $1200 to each

and left the town of Wasilla with $20M in long-term debt - $3000 per capita (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12987.html).

has said no to the pork barrel spending for the bridge to nowhere

well, sort of (http://www.adn.com/sarahpalin/story/511471.html). (And did I mention the Stevens endorsement?)
