I've been looking over the schedule for MathFest 2008. There's a lot of interesting stuff; in addition to the session on Euclidean geometry that I'll be participating in, there are several sessions on the history of mathematics and a mini-course on the geometry of voting, given by Donald Saari. (I've read his book on the subject, but I'd like to hear him in person.) Even so, I'll have a fair amount of free time. I'll be arriving in Madison late Wednesday morning, and the conference doesn't really get going until the next day. Thursday is solidly booked, but there are open spots Friday and Saturday.
pewtergryphon, shall we plan a meeting?

Date: 2008-07-27 02:41 am (UTC)However, Friday's out unless your open spot is early afternoon. I have dinner-and-a-play in Spring Green on Friday. Saturday can probably be arranged, as it's still pretty open at the moment. If you're a morning person, there are several excellent breakfast places in the downtown core. (But then, Madison is simply crammed with excellent restaurants.) There's also a huge farmer's market on the Capitol Square every Saturday, among other things.
Or we could shoot for dinner Wednesday if there's not an opening banquet or some other prearranged event you'll be attending. I work downtown, so it'd be easy to meet you at your hotel after work. Or even pick you up at the airport, if you're flying in.
(Oh, BTW, I haven't posted at
ETA: I googled the event. If you're staying in the Concourse Hotel, you're about 10 blocks from my office. :)
Why not email me at my dendarii.com account? that's myfirstname at dendarii dot com.

Date: 2008-07-27 02:54 am (UTC)Wednesday is probably the best bet, since there may be last minute changes in the schedule. (I know there'll be at least one, since the late Steve Sigur is still listed as giving a talk.)
