Murphy

It's over.

The radiologist found no evidence of tumors, but, after a long talk with the vet, I decided that Murphy was in such bad shape that it was time to let him go.

He shuffled off the mortal coil at about 10:45 AM CDT.

I'll have more to say later.

I am so sorry, dear friend. I have not one iota of doubt that you chose right, both in what to do and knowing when the time to act had come.

I know that to some the idea of The Bridge is treacly and silly, but... well, phooey on them. I absolutely DO believe that our beloved pets have an afterlife and that they await reunion with us. Murphy is there, as lively and healthy as in puppyhood, romping without pain or infirmity.

Oh, my dear friend. Oh. I have just now checked in to see that the saddest has happened. I am so very, very sorry for your pain. You have been a very brave father and friend to Murphy and, as awful as it now feels, the painful decision was the right one. Be sure to give Ben lots of extra love; he will need it, and it will make you feel better, too.

My mother has always said that if heaven is a perfect place, then her dogs will be there, too. Amen to that. It has comforted me many times in the past to think of a beloved pet, newly departed, being met by one of my long gone family members; maybe such a thought could be of comfort to you in this sad time, now.

I'm glad you had the years with Murphy you've had. Planning for another dog in no way diminishes your love for him; I was glad to read your red wagon plans.
