Looking Forward

I have come to a decision regarding my next dog(s). I will try to get them as puppies, or at any rate while they're still young enough to be flexible, and I will work on getting them used to riding in the little red wagon early on. Of course, most of the time I'll walk them, but taking them for a ride around the block once a week or so will make it easier to get them to the vet later on, when they're ill, or it's too hot, or they're simply too old to walk that far.

Having to depend on getting rides from other people is a problem, one that I hoped to alleviate, in Murphy's case, with the wagon (thanks again, O!), but he was too set in his ways to tolerate it. I won't make that mistake again.

The enclosure means that the pet rides in comfort, and you don't have to worry about them jumping out.

That's a possibility. I was thinking about trying to rig a canopy out of a poncho or something, but those do look like possibly-good investments. I wouldn't be able to order one until I had some idea of the size of the dogs - and, given my preference for mutts, that may require waiting until they grow up....

I do think puppies are the way to go. Not just because - well, puppies! - but the bond is stronger. I love Ben and he me, but we don't share what Murphy and I do.

I know what you mean. Morgan and Linnet and I started living together when they were six weeks old (I'd have preferred to give them another couple of weeks with their mother, but the woman who was giving them away wanted them Gone Now -- mostly because she also had a human toddler and the combination was not good), and I think our bond is as strong as it is because of that, also because it's just the three of us and always has been.

I'm glad you're already thinking about it. I bet Ben and Murphy, if they were able to understand you telling them about it, would be glad, too. After all, they know they've had it good; from what you've said about them, I'd think they'd want to share the wealth [g].
