Well, my month-long break is almost over; classes resume Monday. I will be teaching Calc II and my beloved History of Math class. For once, I'll be getting out of class before the last bus, so I won't have to mooch a ride off anyone this semester.
I went in to the office a couple of times last week, taking care of matters old (paperwork for last semester's Senior Project student, changing a misentered grade) and new (syllabi and other instructions for my classes). My student evaluations from last semester were waiting for me on Thursday. The evaluations for the statistics classes were mediocre at best. (This isn't surprising; evaluations for a GenEd course tend to be more negative than those for classes whose students actually want to be there.) The geometry evaluations, on the other hand, were probably the best I've ever gotten for any class. (Some of the students resorted to multiple exclamation points...) We'll see what the Peer Review Committee makes of that.
I'll also be helping my other Senior Project student from last semester wrap up, and my Master's student should be writing her thesis. We'll see how that goes; the problem I suggested for her proved less tractable than I had thought, so we'll have to change directions a bit.
Throw in my colloquium talk on mathematical notation and multiple interviews for faculty openings, and it should be a fairly busy semester.

Date: 2008-01-13 12:18 am (UTC)It sounds good for the future.
Good math instructors are not that easy to find, unlike the plethora of good literature instructors, for instance.
Love, C.
