What a trainwreck. This semester is not starting well.
All of our calculus classes include a lab section; the instructor can request a computer lab or a recitation section. I asked for - I think I asked for - a computer lab. I was given a recitation section. I didn't realize this until this afternoon; the result was mass confusion on the part of my students, my TA, and myself. Now I have to figure out what to tell the TA to do in the recitations.
On top of that, I wasn't able to get a copy of the text for the geometry course. I hoped (forlornly) that I could borrow a copy from one of the students before class and do a quick skim of the beginning - that I could at least wing something. No such luck. One of the students has loaned me his copy until Thursday, so at least I'll be able to prepare something for then.
On the plus side, the abstract algebra course went fairly well this afternoon, and when I walked into the geometry class (remember, they were still expecting the other professor), one of the students said, "Please tell me you're teaching this course!" Also, I had no trouble finding another faculty member to give me a lift home T/Th. These are all nice, but they don't quite make up for the rest.
Gaah.
Oh, yes: a (belated) happy birthday to
coalboy!
