She Came Back

When I got home this evening, I went out to check on the kittens. One of them is coal-black, and looked pretty weak this morning; I found it some distance from the nest. I touched it, trying to see if it was still alive, and it twitched and started mewing. Just then mamma cat went streaking past me and out the doggie door. I checked on the other one, the tabby, and it seemed in reasonable fettle.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh, good.

You might consider putting a dish of food and some water out there (if the dogs won't snarf it down) so mama doesn't need to go looking for food. (again, a painfully obvious suggestion, but they're all I seem to have today)

I would probably have thought of that eventually, but I hadn't. I've put out a bowl of water, and will pick up some cat food when I go grocery shopping later this morning.

Oh good! I was worried about the wee things. I hope mama moved the black one back closer to the nest.

She did. This morning, the black was deep enough in the nest that I couldn't see it clearly, but I could hear it. (I can tell their voices apart, mainly on volume; the tabby is loud and lusty, where the black's voice is fairly soft.)
