My Inner Minstrel has outdone himself. He's got Buddy Holly and Cyndi Lauper taking turns; Buddy sings a couple of lines from "Rave On", then Cyndi jumps in with "She Bop".

They actually fit together fairly well. I find this slightly disturbing.

Mac is the one I really felt sorry for, after Season Two. She had such a crush on Cassidy... I'm ambivalent about both Logan and Weevil. Logan, I think, really is trying to be a better person, but he's hanging so much of that on Veronica that I don't feel sanguine about his chances of holding on to it. Weevil... On the one hand, he was certainly complicit in Thumper's murder. On the other, given what Thumper had done, and given the, mm, mixed record of the Neptune Sheriff's Department in terms of seeing justice done, I can see why he went that route. He does seem to be working hard on rehabilitation in Season Three.

I still think Wiedman is one of the best characters on the show (albeit only in small doses). I'm doubtful we'll see much of him any more, but he gave us a good final bouquet. What motivates him - why he's so loyal to the Kanes, all of them - remains a mystery, and probably should.

"Mac is the one I really felt sorry for, after Season Two. She had such a crush on Cassidy..."

I know; I did, too. Did you see my meme post re sidekicks? Mac is one of my favorites; I hated to see her so hurt and confused.

But I think Mac has an inner source of strength, that Cassidy could have drawn upon, had he not already gone so far down the wrong path. I felt worse about him, because he had no one *but* Mac to turn to, and he couldn't tell her what his fears were or what he'd done. His inner turmoil must have been hell; death must have seemed like such a relief.

Remember the conversation they had in which Mac let slip that she'd talked with Veronica about *her* fears? Mac could do that; she had someone she could ask about it. Cassidy? Hmm, well, lessee, Dick? Not so much. His stepmother? His absent father? And that was just over *normal* teen fears! He had the crushing guilt on top of that. I'm only glad he didn't take Mac with him.

In some ways, it reminded me of real life teenage suicides. If only they could know that life would get better. That they wouldn't always feel like a horrid spotlight shines only on them, and that everyone else is NOT thinking about how stupid they are or laughing at them for something awful that happened to them.

If only Cassidy had been able to get help earlier, before he decided the only thing to do was to crash the bus to prevent the other boys from talking...once he did that, he knew he was beyond redemption.

Logan reminds me of the John LaMoia character from the Lou Boldt series (Pearson) in many ways, although John is an adult and has always been more adept at hiding and protecting his inner core, sometimes even from himself. It seems to me that if we saw Logan through anyone else's filter but Veronica's, we'd only see a rich, spoiled jerk with apparently no redeeming features. Veronica seems to be able to draw out Logan's best intentions, whether they are realized or not. I think he gets so angry with her precisely *because* he knows that with her he can *be* that better person; if *she* won't let him express those feelings he's never felt for someone else, i.e., protective, tender, vulnerable, then maybe they won't exist anymore. Does this make sense? The scene where he watched Veronica check her phone and not answer his call brought tears to my eyes.

Weevil, I just love; even when he's wrong. He reminds me very much of two brothers I knew in high school. Always in petty trouble, always looking for angles to play. But they could always make me laugh, and despite the bad upbringing and loser friends, their *hearts* seemed to be in the right places, mostly.

Wiedman is certainly a mystery. And appears now to be taking orders from Duncan. And I rarely have cause to say this, but - that was the ugliest baby I think I've ever seen. Almost *all* babies look cute to me, but that poor thing didn't look like the end product of two '09ers (g).

I was most sad to note that the Tivo Beast did not apparently record tonight's episode. Blast.
