I've talked about Mary Chapin Carpenter a couple of times. In this post, I identified I Am a Town as my favorite of her songs.

It's been replaced, I think. Almost Home is just gorgeous, and the chorus brings tears to my eyes.
I'm not running
I'm not hiding
I'm not reaching
I'm just resting in the arms of the great wide open
Gonna pull my soul in
And I'm almost home

This sounds like a very comforting kind of song.

Actually (this is Carpenter, after all), the tenor is more joyfully defiant, or defiantly joyful, or sumpin'. It's comforting, yes, but not in a "there, there" way...

You just inspired me to search the hard drive for her songs; thanks for the treat!

It's on her "Party Doll" album, which I recommend. I don't much like the version of I Take My Chances on that album - the one on "Come On, Come On" is more to my taste - but the rest of the album is very good.

Cool. I might have to get that. I wonder how easily I can get country music here. Since I don't listen to it on the radio anymore (not played here), I haven't been listening to/buying it much...
