Just a quick wrap-up: in 2006 I read a total of 84 books, up from 76 in '05. The breakdown was pretty similar: 15 nonfiction (15 in '05), 43 new fiction (42), 25 reread fiction (19), and one reference (0). The big difference in rereads probably can be attributed to a Bujold marathon, in which I reread all of her published work, with the exception of the stories in Dreamweaver's Dilemma. I listed the first-half books here; what I read in the second half of the year is under the cut.

Fiction
F/SF (32): Joan Vinge, The Snow Queen*, World's End*, and The Summer Queen*; Gene Wolfe, The Knight; Rosemary Kirstein, The Language of Power; Neil Gaiman, The Wake; Neal Stephenson, The Confusion; Lois McMaster Bujold, The Curse of Chalion*, Paladin of Souls*, The Hallowed Hunt*, Diplomatic Immunity*, The Spirit Ring*, Falling Free*, Shards of Honor*, Barrayar*, The Warrior's Apprentice*, The Vor Game*, Cetaganda*, Ethan of Athos*, Borders of Infinity*, Brothers in Arms*, Mirror Dance*, Memory*, Komarr*, A Civil Contract*, and The Sharing Knife: Beguilement; Poul Anderson, Time Patrol* and The Shield of Time*; Patricia Wrede & Caroline Stevermer, The Grand Tour; S. M. Stirling, Dies the Fire; Gregory Maguire, Wicked; Robert Anton Wilson, Spin.

Historical (3): Bernard Cornwell, Sharpe's Triumph; George MacDonald Fraser, Flash for Freedom; Dorothy Dunnett, Caprice and Rondo.

Mystery (3): Janet Evanovich, Two for the Dough; Julia Spencer-Fleming, To Darkness and to Death and All Mortal Flesh.

Other (4): Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre; Naguib Mahfouz, Palace Walk and Palace of Desire; Lewis Carroll, Collected Works.
