And the hits just keep on coming...

Both of my classes this semester are in the same building. That building had power Monday and Tuesday, but last night power went out (partly; the classrooms were dark, but the corridors were lit). All I could do with my calculus class (the last session before the final) was return some papers, sit in the dark answering a few questions, and hand out the evaluation sheets. (They went out into the corridor to fill out the forms; I just left, since I'm not supposed to see or even touch the sheets until after I submit the final grades.)

I hope power will be back in time for the final session of my geometry class tonight. If not, I'll just hand out the take-home final and send them home.

How frustrating for all on both sides of the desk! Any explanation from the Uni?

Nope, no explanation that I heard. But we did have power last night, and I was able to wrap up the section we were in. (Didn't get to spherical geometry this year, alas...)

Weird. I heard on the news this morning that Illinois is the only state still struggling with the electric power. At least you did get to *have* a last class.

Wha-a-t? No comments on my Veronica Mars review? Or did you totally disagree? (g)

I'm just trying to think of what to say. You were quite thorough.

Snort. Every time you say I'm being *quite thorough*, I always get the feeling that I've most likely inanely ground the topic to a fine powder...

I am actually interested in your take on VM, how it differs from ours or is similar.

Not so anonymous. Forgot I wasn't logged into this computer.

No, no, that's my schtick.

A reply will come, but it may wind up as an independent post rather than a comment.

'No, no, that's my schtick.'

:)

Oh, good. I'd like to know which characters you find most and least appealing, which the most powerfully emotional scenes, and, like that.

I wonder if any of the written comments on the evals will be directed at the physical plant.

At least your school lets you hand out the evals on the last day of class. Our new VP for Academic Affairs sent out the evals this semester in early November with a deadline of Thanksgiving -- three weeks before the end of the semester.

Huh. We generally get the eval packets just about the time of your deadline.

(There was one occasion, quite a few years ago, when one of my students simply stopped showing up after about a month of classes; needless to say, she wasn't doing well. She didn't drop the course, though. The last day of class, the day I handed out the evals - then she showed up...)

How vexatious for you.

It sounds as if your school's physical plant people are in the same union with ours. At Georgia State University in the early 90s, one would see signs that read, from top to bottom: Physical Plant--Out Of Order--Men Working.
